Re: Using your SDRPlay RSPx as a Spectrum Analyzer for testing

Next picture shows the same AM signal but I have narrowed the span to about 4khz total, using the "Zoom" slider control in SDRSharp. In previous photos, span was at approximately 20khz. http://point16.com/img/10mhz-1khz-am-mod-70dbm-4khz-span.png This allows viewing of details for signal analysis su...

Re: Using your SDRPlay RSPx as a Spectrum Analyzer for testing

Next picture shows the same signal, but I have reduced the amplitude from the signal generator to -70 dbm. Nothing else was changed. Notice that the display does show the correct amplitude: http://point16.com/img/10mhz-1khz-am-mod-70dbm.png After initial amplitude calibration, the RSPx and software ...

Using your SDRPlay RSPx as a Spectrum Analyzer for testing

Hi everyone! As an extension of my post about using your RSPx receiver as a scalar network analyzer (See that here: http://www.sdrplay.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1562 ). This post will show that the RSPx receivers can indeed be used to accurately measure signal amplitude, frequency, and quali...

Re: Using the RSP1 with a noise source aka Scalar Network Analyzer

I thought about using Spectrum Lab for display but I couldn't get it to read out the direct frequency, and the interface seemed to be pretty crowded. Seems that of the available software, SDRSharp works best for this because it has a grid very much like a standard spectrum analyzer, and the span can...

Re: Using the RSP1 with a noise source aka Scalar Network Analyzer

Very good. Let me know how it all works when you get everything together :). My directional coupler is an old Merrimac type UR-1-10. Although only rated down to 10 mhz, I've had no trouble and no significant loss with using it down to about 1 mhz. I did forget to mention that I mounted my noise sour...

Re: Antenna Referred Power Measurement.

Actually, the latest version of SDRuno does seem to have very good automatic & accurate power measurement figures, and you can easily calibrate HDSDR, SDRSharp, and SDR Console to do same. I have used the RSP1 as a test device and found it to be both sensitive and accurate once calibrated. To calibr...

Re: Using the RSP1 with a noise source aka Scalar Network Analyzer

Here are a couple of more images showing uses for this: Sweeping a Collins 455khz Mechanical Filter. The filter response curve just below the center frequency shows that this is an LSB filter, and is approx. 3.5khz wide. The spike to the left is generated within the RSP1 and should be ignored. http:...

Re: Using the RSP1 with a noise source aka Scalar Network Analyzer

Hi Roy, here is some additional detail: The noise source which I use is this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171709817697 . I run it at 7-8 volts even though it is specified at 12 volts. At 7-8 vdc, it produces a very nice, flat noise signal. The directional coupler is only needed for single port measu...

Re: Morse code decoder?

Yes, you need a Virtual Audio Cable program such as VBCABLE or similar. Such a program allows you to route audio from SDRuno into other programs for decoding of digital signals. A good all-purpose decoder program for many modes (including CW I think), is called FLDIGI. There are many examples of how...

Using the RSP1 with a noise source aka Scalar Network Analyzer

Hi all, I've been using my RSP1 along with an inexpensive noise source (from eBay) as a Scalar Network Analyzer. Similar to a conventional spectrum analyzer/tracking generator combination. With this, I can use the RSP1 to analyze and characterize RF filters, mixers, etc. and also to tune repeater du...
