Re: New Computer - SDRUno and other software? AMD/Celeron?

If you can afford it, go with an i3, i5 or i7. Celerons are a bit 'bargain basement' and don't have very much puff. More memory is always a good thing and a decent PC will probably come with 8 or 12 GB. I run SDRUno on an i3 and an i5 and it works fine, although I rarely go above about 6 MHz bw. My ...

Re: How Do I Display More Spectrum?

You can get spans of less than 2 MHz by selecting a 'DEC' of greater than 1. If the SR is set to 2MHz and the DEC to 1, you get (about) 2MHz of spectrum. Increasing the DEC to 2 will give you 1 MHz and DEC 4 will produce 500 KHz. Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but for some reason I'm find...

Re: Unwanted signal on FM from a local station

You seem to have tried most of the dodges. Usually moving the spectrum sideways will cause a spurious signal to shift out of the way (assuming it really is a spurious generated in the receiver). Have you tried altering the sample rate/decimation?

Re: FOR FM DX Which modell RSP

Hi. AFAIK there are no major performance differences between the models. I use the RSP2 because I like the ability to switch between two VHF/UHF antennas and also have a Hi-z input for my LF listening.
If you are concentrating on FM broadcast, the RSP1-a would be fine. They're all good.

Re: For Any HDSDR Users

Bob - the LO frequency is the Local Oscillator, and it produces the central spike when you are using 'Zero IF' mode. IIRC, with HDSDR there will always be an offset between the LO and the 'listening' frequency, as any attempt to listen on the LO frequency will cause distortion. The 'A' simply means ...

Re: Just hearing static

Hi M. A common error is to tune to kHz instead of MHz. 'Native' frequency entry in SDRUno is kHz. If you want to use MHz, use the blue MHz button on the on-screen keypad.
If it's not that, you may have the wrong antenna selected (assuming you have the RSP2 or Duo).

Re: Main Spectrum Settings / FFT Window choices?

A couple of obvious ones to kick off with - try changing the averaging to a higher value, you should see a 'smoothing' effect on the spectrum display and it will react more slowly too. This can be useful for seeing small signals in the noise. The RBW (resolution bandwidth) is like the IF bandwidth i...

If you mean the difference in displayed noise, haven't you got the averaging on in the second shot?

Re: Spectrum Noise Floors: Reasonable ?

It's also worth experimenting with your earth (ground) system, as ground loops can cause terrible noise injection. Through experimentation I have found that antenna grounds that are also used as equipment grounds can inject a lot of noise into a receiver. As a result I keep the grounds separated an...

Re: Spectrum Noise Floors: Reasonable ?

Re the usb lead, I've heard the Trip-Lite ones are quite good: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tripp-Lite-U023-006-Ferrite-Chokes-Black/dp/B003MQ29B2 They have a ferrite at each end so they radiate less hash. It's also worth experimenting with your earth (ground) system, as ground loops can cause terrible ...
