Settings for HF
Settings for HF
I'm monitoring the HF aero bands using a dipole cut for 8.8MHz so mainly that particular band and I would like to know from some experienced users what my optimal, if there is such a thing, settings should be for receiving. I have my antenna dipole legs connected to a un/un and coax cable then runs into the shack and connected to port A on my RSP2. In particular:
Low IF or Zero IF?
IF AGC on or adjustable?
Sample Rate?
Decimation?
Lots of Gain or not so much gain?
Thanks.

Re: Settings for HF
Best HF settings which I've found:
1) IF AGC OFF - Adjust it manually. Gain at about 1/2 seems best on most HF bands. Lower yet for MWBC band.
2) LOW IF for most HF purposes. No center spike to deal with, less gargbage. But there have been situations here when Zero IF worked a bit better. But 98% of the time I use Low IF.
3) Sample Rate I usually use around 2 mhz unless I have reason to see a wider spectrum. Decimation I've never messed with because I use HDSDR and it handles that for me, especially with its new auto band-zoom feature.
I use an RSP1 (not "A") here and get very good performance from most any antenna with these settings.
