LINUX PROGRAM RECOMENDATION

Post by cu2ij » Wed Mar 13, 2019 3:50 pm

Dear All,

I just received a new RSP1A. The operating system is Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I am not an expert in linux or Gnu radio, so I would like to have an easy instalation, with the maximun profit (best SDR software).
Acording to what I red I have 2 ways:

1) GQRX & GNU RAdio, using Osmosdr libs;
2) CubeSDR using Soapy SDR.

What is your recommendation? I would like to use the GRC to learn, but also would like to have a good HF multimode receiver ready for work.
Is the GQRX capable of taking the best out of the RSP1A?

what are the best (updated) guides to the installation?

Best regards (73s)
Luis

Luis,
you may want to start with the 'Non Windows Workflow' here: https://www.sdrplay.com/non-windows-workflow/
For GNU Radio the workflow is here: https://www.sdrplay.com/docs/gr-sdrplay-workflow.pdf

Another option you may want to consider is to run SDRuno on Linux under Wine; a few days ago a user, StandingWave, posted very detailed instructions on how to do it here: https://sdrplay.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4187. I am not sue what is your level with Linux and the command line, but I thought I would mention it just in case you want to give it a try.

Thank you Franco,
after trying without any success, I finally followed the route as explained in
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekFgShB ... e=youtu.be
and at least Cubic SDR is running.
I must say this is a very tortuous way to install the SDR, too bad the process is so complicated.

As for gqrx, the best way to go is to download the latest release at
https://github.com/csete/gqrx/releases/ ... x64.tar.xz , untar the folder inside and run the program by clicking on the gqrx executable inside.

It's like a portable program in Windows in that you don't have to install a thing. Everything that is needed for it to run is inside that folder and should be able to run in any distribution without worrying about dependencies.
