A quick question for someone 'in the know'.... For the RSP2 (at least), is the IF amplifier with AGC implemented as an actual voltage amplifier with controllable gain? That is, is it a circuit that takes in an input signal as a voltage and makes turns it into a larger voltage? Or is it a control for the ADC so that when the signal is small, the full number of bits for the ADC is 'squashed' into a smaller voltage window, and vice-versa? I'm trying to understand some of the aspects of the noise floor with the spectrum analyser program (very good addition to the SDRPlay portfolio) and this developed into a more general topic beyond my discussion with Steve.
Thanks for any insight, Mike.
