am or mw reception
am or mw reception
sdr play works ok on vhf and uhf but having poor luck on the mw band
the signals seems to overload the sdrplay and i have tried differnet settings with sdr sharp
is there a standard configuration i need to use?
thanks
john

What antenna are you using?
Frequencies in the range of HF and lower (0-30MHZ) need good antennas (read: long antennas)
Try attaching a long wire to it.
I have had the same problem when I was a beginner to SDR and ham radio.

Re: am or mw reception
I agree with Sasan. The SDRPlay is a great SDR (probably the best at the price) but the AGC will always try to keep the strongest signal at maximum level. This can cause a lot of clutter, especially if you are using a big aerial or something that provides a lot of signal like the Wellbrook loop. Turning off the AGC and manually reducing the gain can ease the situation. This can be done easily from within the control panel.
I've found that careful gain setting can help a lot, and when it is set properly the SDRPlay isn't too far behind my AOR receiver.
Like other SDRs, aliasing/imaging can cause strong out-of-bandsignals to appear where you don't expect them. If you are into MW listening, a good bandpass filter or a pre-selector can make a huge difference.
Hope this helps.

Re: am or mw reception
thanks guys for the responses
antenna is 10 feet long so i do not overload the sdr front end
i could use a preselector and tuner once i get the sdr working so not a problem
i did try agc on and off and notice a difference but i still cannot recover audio as i tune down there
will send a screen shot...its probably something stupid in the settings somewhere
also i noticed in older sdr# programs i could set the spectrum bandwidth from the gui itself whereas i now found where in the sdr plugin i can do that
cheers
john
i do not expect this to be the same as my nrd 525 receiver but i should get something somehow
