ok, i have uninstalled those from the software manager. removed anything to do with soapy/mirisdr and tried to remove that soapyaudio driver that keeps showing up instead of the RSP. Rebuilt soapysdr and sdrplay and still that blasted soapy audio driver shows up. I think i'm about to wipe the partition and do a fresh install of mint. We've tried our best and i think we are chasing our tails now. I'm certain i have too many bits of left over drivers or the like that giving me grief.

I will report back once i am setup again, hopefully with some better news.

Many, many thanks for you work and input.

Cheers!

To clean out the SoapySDR modules you just need to delete this directory before rebuilding SoapySDR...
Search path: /usr/local/lib/SoapySDR/modules0.7

i've never had SoapySDR/modules0.7 showing in that directory only 2 python folders, a cmake folder and 3 libgnuradio.so and a search of that volume using "SoapySDR" shows nothing either. Something should be there i would think.

In your SoapySDRUtil outputs, they show...
Search path: /usr/local/lib/SoapySDR/modules0.7
Module found: /usr/local/lib/SoapySDR/modules0.7/libaudioSupport.so (58fb1b5)
Module found: /usr/local/lib/SoapySDR/modules0.7/libremoteSupport.so (0.5.0-1c544fe)
Module found: /usr/local/lib/SoapySDR/modules0.7/libsdrPlaySupport.so (0.1.0-ca7e028)
If you have now uninstalled SoapySDR then maybe that directory has gone?

i reinstalled soapysdr and sdrplay as suggested so it should be right there. soapysdrutil --info says its there so why cant i see it?

When you say that you can't see it, do you mean the device or the modules directory?

SoapySDRUtil --info only shows you how SoapySDR is configured.

If that report is showing sdrplay driver as being installed, then you want to use either...

SoapySDRUtil --find=sdrplay

or

SoapySDRUtil --probe=sdrplay

probe just reports more information than find. I would suggest that if you are still having problems, the best thing is to raise a ticket (https://www.sdrplay.com/support) and we can arrange to remotely connect to the machine to see what the problem is via teamviewer.

Just to follow up on the resolution...

I remotely connected in and removed the audio driver from the SoapySDR installation. This allowed the SDRplay driver to be seen and initial tests show it working.

Absolutely wrapped here, thank you very much. Great service! :D

Can't get CubicSDR to find RSP1 with Linux Mint 18.3 Mate addition either

I have read this and other threads carefully regarding the CubicSDR install. I am running Mint 18.3 Mate edition and have had exactly the same experience as Fractal1. I have built CubicSDR three times now, deleted the installations twice before rebuilding it a third. This includes all the Soapy stuff. The result has been the same each time.

CubicSDR builds fine and executes, but it can't see the RSP1. There are two files in module0.7 - libremoteSupport.so and libsdrPlaySupport.so. Nothing else. No files at all that are audio drivers as indicated in the last page of this thread. The SoapySDR utility does not see the RSP1. Not sure if something should be blacklisted, but I am about ready to give up on this. The RSP1 works fine with three different Windows apps on this same computer (dual OS boot), just can't seem to make it recognized with Linux.

I have this same RSP running on a Raspberry Pi 3.

I can use CubicSDR on this computer under Linux using a rtl-sdr dongle and upconverter with no issue.

Any more ideas? Thanks.
