Antennas for City Dwellers

Post by greywolf123 » Wed Jul 10, 2019 5:08 am

Hi,

I'm new to the group and to SDR. I purchased a RSPduo recently coming from a rtl-sdr device and was wondering what would be a good antenna to use in Chicago? I am interested in a host of subjects Police/Fire ADS-B, AIS, Satellite imagery like NOAA weather maps, Military aircraft, and HAM bands.

As I mentioned I live in Chicago by the lake in a building built in the early 20's on the 6th floor. Walls are plaster and the building if fireproof can't really mount anything obtrusive so either inside my office which is 9x8 or I might be able to get away with mounting something on the window AC Unit.

Any help would be appreciative.

Thank you

~Owen

Hi Owen, look here, just new experience!

You will have to go & read it all and go to the last posts.

Should be the antenna for you...costs probably 80 cents. Hope this helps!

Spent 6 months at W. Augusta Boulevard, Motorola, back in the seventies, eating spaghetti with meatballs in an Italian restaurant there.

I would recommend a loop - they do a good job of rejecting noise and you can put them on a small tripod. Many don't take up that much space, either. See this topic...https://www.sdrplay.com/community/viewt ... f=8&t=4575
