The API installation looks good. Apart from the fact that you have libmirisdr installed, you shouldn't have a problem. Which RSP do you have?

libmirisdr is an unofficial, reverse-engineered, library that neither we, nor Mirics, supports or endorses.

If you have a RSP1 then you may have interference from some kernel drivers.

It's possible that the blacklist process is different on different Linux OS distributions, but for Ubuntu you would create a file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and put the following contents into it...

blacklist sdr_msi3101
blacklist msi001
blacklist msi2500

Save the file and reboot the system. If you are still having problems, post the results from...

SoapySDRUtil --info

and

SoapySDRUtil --probe=sdrplay

msi001 16384 1
msi2500 20480 0
v4l2_common 16384 2 msi001,msi2500
You can see here that the kernel drivers I mentioned above are still active and have claimed the device, so it will not be able to be used by anything else. Whether your Linux distribution has a different blacklist method or whether there is maybe a typo in the file I'm not sure.

Can you show the contents of your /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file?

Well that's interesting. Have you rebooted the machine since the file was updated? The drivers are still clearly active.

You may need to look into why the kernel drivers are still active even after they have been blacklisted.

We only have experience of Ubuntu. Maybe the process is different for Mint?

yep, i have rebooted. I really would not know where to start looking for that sort of info. I spent days finding all i could on the subject and still got nowhere. I can only hope someone using mint will this these posts. As far as i am aware, mint should not be any different, yet here we are.
If you come up with any other thoughts please let me as i can't use my radio until it's sorted. In the meantime, thank you very much for the time you have taken with me.

cheers!
