Re: Volume cuts in and out intermitently every second SOLUTION!

Of course if you want to record a 1296MHz EME contest you can use an 8Mhz bandwidth You will get big wave files that you cannot split or explore with current audio software You wont be able to play them on many computers. But you wont get any overload helped a lot here by the directivity of your aer...

Re: Volume cuts in and out intermitently every second SOLUTION!

Hi Except for displaying a wide spectrum when you want to listen to a particular signal it is a bad idea to use an 8 MHz bandwidth. You increase the risk of overloading the ADC. If you record the whole spectrum (a great advantage of SDR IMHO) you get very big files. And of course you use a lot of pr...

Re: What is on everyone's SDRplay V2.0 wish list?

There is one thing I don't like on USB devices it is the need for an external USB cable :D Depending on the one you use ,it's length, whether or not its uses ferrites, performances change. Especially when you forget to take the good cable with you :D May be it would be a good idea to use a good tail ...

Re: Should your RF ground connect all the way to the SMA jack?

If the shield of your coaxial cable is not connected to the ground of the receiver there is no advantage to using coaxial cable.
At HF it may seem to work but above 20Mhz it is really bad.

Re: Magnetic Loop Antenna with SDRPlay

I certainly got a lot more signal with the loop plugged in that without it - but nothing like the amount of signal I get with a 2 m long dipole fed through coax that is mounted outside and is primarily for the OIRT ~70 MHz)band. The checks were carried out on MW and the main broadcast SW bands. It ...

Re: RA0SMS Miniwhip bad performance on SDRPlay

The max performance i get out of it is with the LNA off and gainreduction to it's maximum setting any other setting only raises noisfloor and lowers signals into the noise. Hi From that description I would suspect some kind of UHF oscillation of the miniwhip. Try replacing the Q2 emitter follower t...

Re: Is it over kill toshield your RF ground if its far away?

Hi Where would you connect the shield of your shielded ground ? To avoid ground loops between the AC plug/USB ground and the RF ground on HF receive aerials. I use small toroid transformers made with toroid core salvaged from energy saving lamps . They are located at the base of vertical antennas or...

Re: Where to get SMA Adapters that are 50 Ohm 2GHz? Do they exist?

And serious work at those frequencies involve using an external pre-amplifier to correct cable loss that
will also correct any small adapter mismatch and allow the use of cheap 75 Ohms cable for long runs
For cheap adapters look at the WIFI specialists.

Re: What is on everyone's SDRplay V2.0 wish list?

A way to switch external filters or aerials depending of the frequency tuning.
Too many internal filters will increase cost and induce problems in the overlapping zones.
May be the use of switched notch filters inside the SDRplay would be a better solution.

Re: Would wrapping the unit in AlFoil tape help shield it?

It is very simple and cheap to try this. My SDRplay is wrapped in aluminium foil since I have it. As said it can only improve so I keep it like this. One of my goal when I did it was that in the FM band with no aerial it receives as little as possible. On that ground it improved a lot. A thing I fou...
