Re: Using SDRPlay as RFI Finder
My SDRPlay is excellent at showing up RFI. Some days at 0845 a dirty great RF source starts up at the lower end of the FM broadcast band - adding 25-30dB to the noise floor. It lasts about 45 minutes. It suggest to me an RF heating source when a factory starts up in the morning. Currently every even...

Re: Minimum gain but still have images
BTW and FWIW, I find that using Low IF with HDSDR greatly improves managing those images. Hi Harry, The problem with using Low IF is that you then have to contend with IF images spaced at twice the sample rate i.e. 4.096 MHz below a strong station - and these are only around 45 dB down. Airspy will...

Re: Minimum gain but still have images
By "AM station" you mean a medium wave broadcast station I presume. Your description suggests an aliasing problem which is why it is moving at x3 the frequency shift. I had the reverse problem - Radio China International on the 75 m band appearing at the bottom end of the AM band and moving at a mul...

Re: Introduction to Panadapters with SDR
Another source of information and adapter kits for a number of popular transceivers is g4hup.com. I purchased a PAT50M to fit to my Lowe HF225 receiver as I wanted to take advantage of the front end band-pass filters to improve image rejection on HF. It worked very well. It was easiest to use it wit...

Re: ADC Setpoint not working
I only know the Windows platform - but what Mirics API are you using? When API 1.8.0 was released the interaction between the LNA gain and the tuner gain was changed and caused a 20 dB jump in overall gain at the changeover point. This was corrected in a few days later in API 1.8.1. Is it possible t...

Re: Sdr-console V3 Preview is out
I've downloaded it to a Windows 8.1 machine and tried it on SDRPLay only. I look forward to further releases with keen interest especially when RDS decoding is incorporated. I'm sure the test team are busy scrutinising it to the nth degree to weed out the bugs etc. I wonder if Simon will get the RDS...

Re: Suggested 6M and VHF gain settings?
Possibly the simplest way is to run with LNA and then set AGC on. Then see what figure the IF gain ends up at. It obviously depends on what stations are about. For the FM broadcast band somewhere between - 45 and - 65 is 'normal'.

ADC Setpoint not working
I don't normally move the setpoint from -20dB but in the past doing so had an effect on the noise floor and if set to 0 dB or just under could end up with overload. I was chasing down a varying noise floor (possible local off frequency transmitter?) and found that with the current version changing t...

Re: SDRPlay simple modifictions
Did the shielding make a difference? I just wrapped my MkI in a couple of layers of aluminium kitchen foil. A cable tie ensured it was grounded to the antenna. It basically eliminated the 'hash' from the background when listening on an adjacent analogue FM tuner - and removed lots of spikes on the ...

Re: SDRPlay, HDSDR, Ham Radio Deluxe, IF Out?
In HDSDR under "Options" (F7) click on the menu item "RF Front End and Calibration". The left hand section deals with SDR hardware coupling. I've added an IF output for my Lowe HF-225 which gives a 45 MHz signal - so I set it to "Manually" controlled and "Independent tune in HDSDR" setting the IF fr...
