SDRPLAY MSi2500

Post by skhreze » Tue Feb 23, 2016 6:48 pm

In this blog post I see there is a possibility to run with higher sample rate but lower resolution. Can it work with SDRplay?

Nice link thanks.
I too noticed that decoding DVBT signals from the SDRPLAY was more stress for the PC CPU than from an RTLSDR.
But not having to change drivers for SDR use is an advantage.

Hi F1BJB,
The reason why the DVB-T software places more CPU load with the RSP when compared to the RTL platform is because unlike the RTL, the RSP is a true SDR. The RTL chipset has a hardware demodulator for DVB-T, whereas with the RSP (based upon the Mirics chipset) implements DVB-T demodulation entirely in software on the host CPU. The advantage of this is that in principle, the RSP can support any kind of TV standard (with the appropriate software). We know for a fact that the same chipset was used for ISDB-T in Japan and Brazil. The software for implementing these modern TV standards is extremely complex and very difficult to implement efficiently such that it can run 'real-time' on a mid-range PC.

Sincerely

Thanks for this detailed information.
It explains the little success of the very few DVBT cards based on this device.
